The City Chosen for Routes Europe 2027: Antalya

The selection of Antalya to host the 20th edition of Routes Europe is more than a conference announcement it is a formal recognition that the city has moved well beyond its identity as a seasonal holiday destination and into the strategic core of European aviation.

Routes Europe 2027 will take place in Antalya, hosted by Fraport TAV Antalya Airport. The announcement was made on 4 March 2026 at ITB Berlin. As Europe’s leading route development conference, Routes Europe brings together airlines, airports and tourism destinations to negotiate new air services and build long-term commercial partnerships. The scale of the platform is significant: more than half of all new air routes launched in Europe trace their origins to meetings held at Routes events, with over 5,000 one-to-one meetings taking place across three days between senior network planning executives from more than 110 European airlines.

Antalya Airport: A EUR 865 Million Transformation

Behind this decision lies a fundamental shift in what Antalya Airport represents. Operated by a joint venture between TAV Airports and Fraport, the airport completed a EUR 865 million expansion programme in April 2025 that nearly doubled its terminal and airside capacity, bringing annual passenger capacity to 65 million. In 2025, the airport handled a record 39.2 million passengers, maintaining its position as Türkiye’s second busiest airport by international traffic.

Capacity alone does not explain the selection. Operational maturity, a well-established network of partnerships with European carriers, and a demonstrable ability to generate sustainable passenger traffic across all twelve months of the year set Antalya apart. The city’s record January 2026 visitor numbers confirm that its transformation into a year-round destination is no longer a target it is a reality.

Route Development: What This Means for Antalya

Hosting Routes Europe brings the conference’s attendees into direct contact with the destination and its airport an experience that frequently becomes a deciding factor in new route decisions. For Antalya Airport, having the network planning leadership of more than 110 European airlines on home ground represents a direct business development opportunity: to deepen existing connections, open new market links and strengthen the year-round flight schedule.

The broader economic context reinforces the significance of the moment. According to World Travel and Tourism Council projections, tourism’s contribution to Türkiye’s economy is expected to reach USD 160 billion by 2035, supporting 3.8 million jobs. Delivering on that potential depends directly on air connectivity. Routes Europe 2027 will bring the decision-makers who shape that connectivity to Antalya.
