Moscow Tourism Impacts Over 40 Sectors in 2025

The city’s economy grows through the multi-layered influence of tourist demand

According to Rosstat 2025 data, Moscow welcomed 28 million visitors in the first nine months of the year. The number of international tourists arriving in the first half of 2025 also increased by about 10% year-on-year. In Moscow, tourism extends far beyond hospitality and dining — it directly and indirectly affects more than 40 sectors, including transportation, culture and events, technology, and retail.

Investments and Spending Drive Economic Growth

Every 1 ruble invested in tourism generates approximately 3.2 rubles of added value for the Moscow economy. In 2025, tourist spending reached around €3.5 billion. This flow of investment and consumption continues to stimulate growth in hotel development, dining and entertainment services, transport infrastructure, and digital solutions.

Sectoral Ripple Effects

Tourism demand strengthens not only traditional sectors such as accommodation, food, and transport but also technology, retail, culture, events, and logistics. In 2025 alone, over 5,000 new SMEs linked to tourism were established, bringing the total number of small and medium-sized enterprises in Moscow to around 76,500. Growing demand continues to drive diversification and expansion of services and investments across the city.

The Economic Depth of Tourism

Tourism in Moscow influences economic activity both directly and indirectly. Rising visitor demand stimulates growth across multiple areas — from cultural and event industries to technology and logistics services. This wide-ranging impact has turned the Russian capital into an increasingly attractive hub for both domestic and international investors.
