Organized in collaboration with the Emirates Foundation, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and Active Abu Dhabi, the Misrah Heritage Trek invites young people aged 18–25 to discover Emirati culture through immersive, hands-on experiences. Starting on August 21, the program aims to equip participants with traditional life skills while testing their physical endurance.
1,000 Kilometers Immersed in Culture
Misrah is a unique cultural exploration project that envisions a 1,000 km desert journey undertaken on camelback and with traditional means of transport. While experiencing Emirati heritage firsthand, participants will also strengthen their character and leadership skills.
A Two-Stage Selection Process
The program stands out for its broad participation and rigorous selection:
Stage One: Basic training will be provided in Abu Dhabi to 500 participants, covering traditional skills such as camel care, riding, handicrafts, and folk dances.
Stage Two: The 100 participants who successfully complete the training will earn the right to join the 1,000 km historical desert trek.
Thematic Learning Stations
The training is structured around three main stations:
The Coffee House: The rituals of Emirati coffee preparation and traditions of hospitality.
Folk Arts Workshops: Hands-on sessions in folk arts such as Al Ayala, Al Harbiya, and Al Taghrooda.
Camel Pastures: Camel care, anatomy, traditional saddle preparation, and equipment use.
Each group will rotate through these stations, spending one hour at each to complete the process.
Strategic Partnerships
The event is supported by numerous organizations, including the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Mubadala Investment Company, and the Department of Culture and Tourism. This public–private partnership model provides a strong cultural and logistical foundation for the project.
