One of Europe’s busiest airports, Istanbul Airport, began its “simultaneous triple independent runway operation” as of April 17, 2025. This system allows three aircraft to land and take off simultaneously, marking a first in Europe. The operation aims to streamline air traffic flow and significantly increase the airport’s dynamic capacity.

Previously, Istanbul Airport’s capacity was limited by its two runways, which occasionally caused long waiting times and congestion during peak travel hours.
