Trabzon–Sochi Ferry Services Resume After 11 Years

A new chapter is opening in maritime transport across the Black Sea. It has been announced that ferry services between Trabzon Port and the Russian city of Sochi will resume after nearly 11 years.

Preparations for the New Route Are Complete

Following efforts by the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the necessary authorization processes between the two countries have been finalized. The route will once again be operational for both passenger and vehicle transport.

In the initial phase, a ferry with a capacity of 300 passengers, 200 cars, 6 buses, and 12 trucks is expected to serve on the line.

Boost for Regional Trade and Tourism

The renewed ferry connection is expected to revitalize trade in the Black Sea region and strengthen Trabzon’s position as a logistics hub. Exporters in the area will gain easier access to the Russian market, while in the tourism sector, the route is anticipated to attract more Russian visitors to Türkiye’s Black Sea coast via Sochi.

Officials from the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality emphasize that the line will enhance not only economic activity but also cultural exchange between the two nations.

Timing and Planning

Final preparations are underway for the launch of the ferry service. The exact start date will be announced in the coming weeks, following the completion of technical inspections of the vessel fleet and final agreements between the two countries.

A New Era for the Black Sea

Experts note that the revival of this route will strengthen Türkiye’s maritime transport network in the Black Sea and provide long-term momentum to the regional economy.

With the reopening of the Trabzon–Sochi line, the Black Sea is expected to experience a surge in both economic and touristic activity.
